There's an
interesting discussion by Simon Marquis in the
MediaGuardian of the ITV Contract Rights Renewal remedy imposed by the Competition Commission on the fledgling ITV plc to limit its power in the advertising market. The remedy was devised by Charles Allen - latterly of ITV - as a quid pro quo for the
clearance of the merger between Carlton and Granada in 2003. ITV wants the OFT to lift the burden of the remedy. Given the changed circumstances since its imposition, there has to be a strong case for doing so.
